AI for Good Youth Zone Explores Responsible AI Education and Youth Participation
The Youth Zone at the 2026 AI for Good Global Summit brought together educators, technology specialists and young participants to examine how artificial intelligence can be introduced into education in a responsible and meaningful way.
The second day of the Youth Zone shifted attention from technical skills towards policy, teaching practice and accountability. Sessions considered how students can move beyond simply using AI tools and develop the knowledge and confidence to participate in the future design of digital technologies.
One of the featured activities introduced participants aged 11 to 16 to GeoAI, which combines artificial intelligence with digital mapping. Through a game-based activity, young participants explored how these technologies could be used to investigate real-world challenges in extreme environments.
Other discussions focused on the selection and procurement of AI-powered education technology. Speakers examined the standards that schools and governments should consider when adopting new tools, including suitability, accountability and the potential risks associated with rapidly developing technologies.
Young people were also placed at the centre of the conversation through a structured debate on access to AI, technology design and responsible use. The programme reflected a broader shift in AI education: from teaching students how to operate new technologies towards helping them think critically about how those technologies are developed, selected and used.
The Youth Zone formed part of the AI for Good Global Summit 2026, organised by the International Telecommunication Union in Geneva.
